Clubs & Activities
CHESS CLUB
Mary Lin's Chess Club meets Friday mornings from 7:15-7:45. Now in its 25th year at Lin, the club is supervised by volunteer parent instructors and offers a wonderful opportunity for Lin students to practice and learn new chess skills. Parents interested in volunteering to run or help with the Chess Club should contact TIM KLINE.
MATH SUPERSTARS
Math Superstars at Mary Lin is a math enrichment program for grades K-5 which complements material being learned in the classroom and challenges students to stretch their thinking one step further. The program was conceived and materials were developed at the Florida Department of Education in the early 1980's. The program began at Mary Lin in 1998. Small groups of students meet weekly with parent volunteers. Math worksheets are distributed weekly and students are rewarded for participation. MATH SUPERSTAR REGISTRATION FORM
ART CLUB
The art club is an option provided to 4th and 5th graders
who want to experience art in many forms and to supplement the classroom
experience. Activities are generally more sophisticated and allow for enhanced
individual creativity. This club meets once a week before school and has special openings and events
during the year. Students in 4th and 5th grade may join by application by first come first served policy. There is usually a long waiting list. Contact Bonnie Baker.
CUB SCOUTS
Cub Scouting is a division of the Boy Scouts of America, providing a program for boys in grades 1-5 that focuses on Scouting's core aims - citizenship training, character development, and personal fitness. Dens typically meet twice a month and are grouped according to grade: 1 - Tiger Cubs; 2 - Wolf Cubs; 3 - Bear Cubs; 4 - Webelos I; 5 - Webelos II. We have some great camping and other field trips planned for 2009-2010, in addition to the ever-popular Pinewood Derby Race.
